A State Transition Diagram is used to identify each state and the transitions between them.
The states have names and a number to uniquely identify them and the transitions are shown as a line and arrow to show the direction of change. Each transition is also numbered and labelled.
The diagrams on the following pages show the three systems discussed earlier.

- red
- red / amber
- green
- amber
