6. Batch operating system
This kind of operating system is optimised for running jobs without user interaction.
A 'job' consists of a set of input data files to be processed at a later time. The result of the batch job may be set of output files or more often a set of printed documents.
For instance a large company may invest in a mainframe loaded with a batch operating system to run their payroll system.
A car company may want to use a batch system to work out their bill of materials. The input will be details of the cars to be built and output will be a set of order for their suppliers.
