A data-entry term.

Some types of data need to be in the correct format, or it may have lower or upper acceptable limits. So some rules are put in place to allow the application to check that the data is valid. This is 'validity' testing.

Usually, if the data entry is invalid then a warning message is provided to let you know which rules have not been met properly.
