A multimedia file format.

AVI files end with the .avi extension.

Short for "Audio Video Interleave" but now simply known as an AVI file. It was developed many years ago in 1992 by Microsoft and since then it has become a very popular mulitmedia file standard.

It can contain both video and audio data. To view an avi file you need a player either as an add-on in your browser or a stand-alone application.
