Voice Recognition

The ability of a computer to react to someone speaking.

Voice-recognition software will take in the voice signal being picked up by a microphone and sound card, then process it in order to extract commands.

You will find voice recognition systems in some modern cars, so you can say 'Radio On' whilst driving and the radio is switched on for you. This is a convenience and safety feature so you do not need to get your hands off the wheel.
