Inkjet Printer

An output device.

An inkjet printer deposits ink onto paper using a number of microscopic nozzles to form each character.

As the character commands come in from the computer, the nozzle pattern is altered to form character shapes on the paper.

There are at least 4 colour ink cartridges in the printer, one is jet black and the others are yellow, magenta (a kind of pink) and cyan (a kind of blue). These are called the CMYK colours.

Inkjets are also excellent for producing colour photographs. In this case the nozzles are used to produce coloured dots on the paper that reflect the pixel commands coming in from the computer.

Inkjets work best with specially coated paper that allows the ink produce sharp images, ordinary paper absorbs the ink resulting in a fuzzy picture or text.
