Facebook is an example of a social media site.
A social media site offer a free personal page for you to describe your interests, a list of friends that are also on the site, favourite music, recent photographs, what's happening to you and so on. And most importantly it allows you to post your own content.
It earns its money by inserting targeted adverts and other content into your personal feed. These will be viewed (and clicked) by your friends and family who can access your content.
Facebook has now become so important in people's use of the internet, that what it displays in terms of adverts and third party posts may influence people's opinions about sensitive topics such as politics. Therefore content moderation is now an important social issue.
