Distance Learning

This means that your tutor / teacher is not available face to face and your learning materials are obtained either by the internet or by mail.

For example, children on farms in the Outback of Australia make heavy use of distance learning because it just isn't practical to go to a school that is so far away from their home.

In Britain, distance learning is also well developed. For example Open University started in the 1960's to allow people to study for degrees without having to attend University.

There are many companies offering distance learning packages to pass GCSE and A level on a whole host of subjects

The disadvantage of distance learning is that you do need a lot of self-discipline to carry on and the lack of personal contact with a tutor\teacher can be a problem when the course proves difficult.

Recently it has become practical to have 'virtual classrooms' where you can interact with a teacher as the lesson takes place.
