Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)
A Cathode Ray Tube is a common type of computer monitor. It is similar in appearance to a television screen and works in a similar way.
CRT monitors are used less these days, they have been superceded by TFT monitors, mainly because of their large bulky size and the heat they produce.
The CRT works in the same way as a television - it contains an electron gun at the back of the glass tube. This fires electrons at groups of phosphor dots that coat the inside of the screen. When the electrons strike the phosphor dots they glow to give the colours.
