Batch File
This is a text file containing one or more system commands. These system commands are executed by running the batch file from the command prompt of the operating system.
Batch files sometimes have the file extension .BAT
For example in Windows XP, bring up the command prompt from the Accessories menu. Then type in the name of a batch file you wish to run.
Batch files are useful to run scheduled background tasks such as backup or defrag tasks.
