5. Criteria: Efficiency

A business want to be as efficient as possible and will tend to support projects that provide efficiency gains compared to the investment.

Efficiency is measured in many different ways depending on what is being described. For example a business process might take two people, three hours to complete. A new system is proposed that allows one person to do it in two hours. Clearly there has been an efficiency gain.

So if the project is offering this kind of advantage then the efficiency gains should be quantified and used as part of the evaluation.
