1. Introduction

Have you ever heard the phrase:

"Red sky at night, shepherd's delight. Red sky in morning, shepherd's warning”

sunset

The saying is suggesting that if you see a red sky at night then the next day is likely to be dry, so delighting the shepherd.

But, if you see a red sky in the morning, it suggests there is going to be rain that day, not good news for a shepherd who would rather stay dry!

So, the saying is suggesting there is a relationship between the colour of the sky and the weather that will follow.

The relationship is called a model - a model tries to predict what might happen based on the relationship.

What has this got to do with ICT? Well not much really, but it did introduce the terms 'relationship' and 'model' to you.
