16. Remote controls

remote controlA remote control is a hand-held device which is used to control a machine from a short distance away. Remote controls need line-of-sight in order to send their signals to the receiving device, obstacles such as furniture or walls can block the signal.

Some remote controls allow text to be typed, for example, making a note of the name of a TV programme which has been recorded.

Examples of use for remote controls:

  • Televisions
  • Music systems
  • Lighting systems
