Somehow it seemed far too easy to enter the Black Citadel. Within moments of stepping through the gate you feel woozy and the world fades away.
You awaken inside a cell.
You see a tiny window on the north wall. You approach the window and find a piece of paper wrapped around one of bars
The note reads: To leave this cell you must correctly answer the following question:
Q1.Text is displayed on a computer screen. To do this, which of the following is used?
That answer was incorrect.
The cell door swings open. There is a corridor ahead. You can go right or left
You trip and fall down a large hole. You are unconscious
You run down the corridor. Candles flicker, lighting your way. You breathe the dank, musty air. Ahead is a door. On the door is a question which you must answer:
Q2. ASCII code is used to identify a text character
The door remains closed.
You are clever. But are you clever enough? Answer me another question to find out:
Q3. A font takes the ASCII code and presents it in a particular format on the screen
The door remains closed.
You are worthy, you may continue on your journey. Go ahead.
The door opens. Ahead of you is an old crone. The crone gives you two potions. One is blue, the other green. Which one should you drink?
Surely you know that a green potion contains poison? You feel very, very ill!
You choose the correct potion, well done. The old crone asks you a question. You must answer it correctly to continue on your journey.
Q4. Which of the following is not controlled by a font style?
That answer was incorrect.
Well done, you are amazing!
Did you also know that fonts can display characters in italics, bold and underline?
The view is lovely, you spend time admiring it.
The old crone shuffles away. Ahead of you there is a staircase which leads into foreboding gloom. What should you do?
You feel very sorry for yourself.
What a brave decision. You begin to climb the stairs with trepidation. Halfway up, you stumble over a box. There is an inscription on the box which reads:
Answer my question to reveal my treasures
Question: Applications come with a standard set of inbuilt fonts.
Sorry, that is the wrong answer
Well done.
The box clicks open and reveals a magical scroll. You read the scroll and gain the following knowledge:
If you can’t find the font that you want in an application, there are hundreds of unique ones on the internet which you can download.
You unfurl the rest of the scroll and learn the following:
If you use a font that you have downloaded, unless the other person also has it installed on their computer, they won’t see the font in the same way that you do.
You continue up to the top of the stairs. All around you is smothering blackness. You hear childlike singing and the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. Listening carefully you can make out a single line of words:
“Fonts can be either bitmap or vector”
You repeat the line from the song and suddenly you are blinded by light. The sound of singing fades away.
Ahead of you are three doors, each guarded by a gargoyle
The left gargoyle gives you the following important information:
Bitmap fonts will pixellate when enlarged
The centre gargoyle tells you that vector fonts can be enlarged and will remain sharp and clear
The right gargoyle tells you that if you can repeat what you have just been told you may exit the dungeon
You have chosen to give your answers. Which of these is correct?
Your answer was incorrect
You have answered everything correctly.
You are the dungeon master.
You may leave this awful place and return to the safety of the world
THE END.
