1. Introduction

A simple, domestic network connecting a couple of computers is a very different beast to a full enterprise network connecting hundreds of computers.

When deciding on the size of network you might need, there are seven factors which you need to carefully consider:

  • Speed
  • Cost
  • Security
  • Availability
  • Scalability
  • Reliability
  • Topology

If you are asked about these factors in your exam, you need to be able to discuss:

  • The definition of the factor
  • How it can be increased
  • How it is measured
  • When that factor is more important than others
